With over 30 years of  business management experience and extensive

businesses in the United States and in Canada.  I spent thousands of

commitment to ethical conduct and long term thinking to my work.

Resolving Conflict in various forms has been a focus and interest
throughout most of my life.  When problems occur I can help you get
things moving again in the most productive and least destructive way
preserving important relationships and not "throwing the baby out with
the bathwater".   This may simply be a matter of helping to clarify what
the conflict is
really about or through a formal Mediation session.

Did you know that as a Nova Scotia business you may be able to
raise capital and have the government provide up to 70 cents of
every dollar invested?
Through a program called a CEDIF, Community Economic
Development Investment Fund, investors can put money in your
company as an RRSP -realizing that tax benefit, then take a 30% Nova
Scotia investment tax credit, and if you are outside of HRM the
government will guarantee 20% of the investment.

Structural Thinking - Many obstacles in the
workplace come from problems with the
structures or the systems in place. These
inadequate structures often take the shape of
conflicting agendas and goals, counter productive
compensation plans, politically driven, rather than
results driven management polices or simply a
lack of clear direction or priorities.

Sometimes this leads to
unnecessary conflict
between people or just an inability to move
forward consistently. Sometimes conflict arises
because people focus on their differences rather
than their common interests or because of poor
communication skills,  misunderstandings,
prejudices or jealousy. This can lead to
arguments, grievances, "warring factions",
litigation and serious loss of productivity.

Even if you put "good people" in a bad system,
they will function poorly.

ADR and Mediation can often be a very
effective option in resolving conflicts or as a
standardized part of the formal grievance
process. Did you know that in 85 - 90% of
cases that come to mediation are agreeably
settled between the parties.

Mediation may be new to you, but it is a
standard practice in many US governmental
agencies, in the Alberta court system and is
mandatory in many US states as part of family
dispute resolution. Mediation and other forms of
Appropriate Dispute Resolution (ADR) can
save tens of thousands of dollars and just as
importantly can preserve valuable relationships
while still sorting-out the problem.
Mediation
often leads to more enduring solutions as the real
cause of the conflict may actually be addressed.
